The truth be told I made this apple mid 09” I took it with me to the West Coast show, a couple of my well known pipe maker friends critiqued this apple and thought I should make a few small changes in the shape. It now has a more tapered shank and stem and a richer finish. It’s amazing how a couple small changes can make such a big difference. I call the rustication style “Navajo Weave”. The finish is a deep espresso brown, that blends beautifully with the brown / black ebonite swirl stem. The tapered shank has a band of silver, horn, and ivory.
