Briar Burl & Stag Horn Holder & Tamper

The knobby skin of the uncut briar has always appealed to me.

I have always wanted to utilize the texture somehow in a Pipe Stand.

While looking at this small spike buckhorn I was inspired to marry the two.

This stand is 7” tall by 8'' long. It can accommodate long shank Canadian, as well as many different shaped medium pipes. The Spike is inset with a ring of Mammoth Ivory. It is drilled and securely set into the Briar. The Tamper is made out of a piece of Briar skin. I carved it to look like a branch emerging from the Briar.

The finish area is hand rubbed with a special botanical oil to bring out the high shine.
