Amboyna Wood Pipe Stand
(Tribute to Henry Moore)
This stand is made of a very rare wood called Amboyna Burl. The tree is called a “Red Narra” and is grown in Southeast Asia. This tree yields many different patterns within the same tree, making this wood unique. It even smells great while carving. This stand features some breathtaking pattern as well as some elegant color shifts. The tamper is a hand cut amber acrylic with a zebra wood end, finished off with a swirl to complement the stand. The pattern I chose for the stand is reminiscent of the sculpture of Henry Moore. He loved to pierce holes in his sculptures. Now I know why. I enjoyed working around the holes. It made me think differently about my composition. This stand will accommodate small & medium pipes.
