Ionic & Doric meet 2010 

 

This stand was defiantly a flight of fancy!  After a holiday season of finishing commission work, I was just busting at the seams to create a “One of a Kind” The theme for this, as the title states, is drawn from classical architecture.  I have always been taken with the development of the column.  All through antiquity, this element has evolved over time.  I drew elements from both Ionic & Doric, as well as some light Corinthian influence as well.  Added in the mix is an almost frantic flow, which strives to unite the whole.  This pipe stand is carved out of Mexican Tambooti wood.  Tambooti is very similar to Arizona Ironwood.  The stand will accommodate small & medium pipes. The tamper is heavily burled briar with a tip of copper, crowned with marbleized ebonite.
